Le 52, the place to be in the 10th arrondissement
Charles Compagnon is one of the people who gives Paris’s 10th arrondissement its unique character. A pioneer on the Parisian restaurant scene, who’s keen to promote fresh, homemade produce, he has brilliantly transformed an old butcher’s shop into a restaurant. After Le Richer and the Office – which he has now handed over to Charles Nikitis – Paris-born Compagnon has created Le 52, located in the lively Strasbourg-Saint-Denis district. This modern-looking neo-bistro, with its meticulous but minimal interior design, gives pride of place to the menu – and to the décor. Custom-made wooden and leather benches by Gesa Hansen (Charles’s wife) and natural materials – a mixture of concrete and exposed stone – adorn the walls of this lively place. In terms of the food, this is the place to come for bold cuisine. And for those who love a café atmosphere, it’s open all day. Which is another good reason to visit 52 Faubourg Saint-Denis.
