Six Tips for Designing An Urban Terrace
As the sun timidly reclaims its rightful place, we rush to take advantage of its rays, eager to bask on our terraces from the very beginning of spring ! Precious places in our town and city environments, often sadly lacking in greenery, which reflect our tastes and can be just as inviting as our interiors. To help you make the most of your urban terrace or, failing that, your balcony, The Socialite Family has listed these six top tips for you ! Clever ideas freely inspired by our families’ outdoor spaces. Let’s start with the lighting; choose it as carefully as you would for your living room ! Tea-lights, candles, lanterns or string lights : they all contribute to making your little patch of greenery a festive and dreamy place to be. To pamper all your senses, don’t hesitate to let your rugs escape from indoors ! Simultaneously decorative and functional, they will warm up your terrace floors – especially those made of stone or concrete. Follow the example set by Milanese photographer Margherita Chiarva Plain or patterned, in straw or wool, these floor coverings offer smooth flat surfaces, and we like to superimpose them. And to blur the inside-outside boundaries, we really encourage you to move your beloved furniture. Pieces that are easy to move, allowing you to optimise the outside space your urban terrace offers while making extra room indoors. A side table, a folding chair or even some family seating ! A bench, a chaise longue, or a banquette: so many convivial styles of seating where you can spend good times with family or friends. Seen at Zoé de Las Cases, they will accommodate plump cushions or even cuddly quilts. In short: hijack and hoard your favourite soft furnishings outside. A fourth tip that will help you create areas suitable for reading or taking a nap while also warming up your summer evenings. Finally, like your furniture, your plants also want to get some sun ! So don’t hesitate to take them outside, combined with their most beautiful planters, to green up your urban terraces and decorate them too. These tips may not seem like much, but they are both simple and easy to apply at home, so you can personalise your (slightly) improvised sun deck.
