Villa Borsani, in the Steps of Osvaldo

We just couldn’t resist stopping off at the imposing Villa Borsani during our last visit to Milan. For the Salone del Mobile, Tommaso Fantoni, Osvaldo Borsani‘s grandson, and Ambra Medda, the curator, opened its doors for the first time for the week for the project, “Villa Borsani: Casa Libera!“. A tantalising foretaste of the first retrospective dedicated to him at La Triennale in Milan which is open from yesterday until 15th September 2018. The Villa Borsani marked a real transition point where the founder of Tecno distanced himself from his father’s traditionalism. Built during the 40s, this highly experimental residence of the maestro’s family celebrates the art of living Italian style. 800 m2 of modernist design, clean and pure, with sublime pre-war decorative motifs in luxurious materials. Just as in his other work, Osvaldo Borsani used technological advances to perfect traditional Italian craftsmanship. A combination of rationality and elegance mean no-one will be indifferent to the Villa Borsani, especially when you know that the artist himself designed everything, from the building to the furniture. A complete masterpiece and a rare example of his prolific world. Impressive.
