Così Fan Tutte
Lovers of the decorative arts know it well: furniture speaks. They exchange discreetly among themselves, in a whisper of crumpled fabric, in a clatter of metal or a purr of moving wood. Writer and illustrator Philippe Jullian made no mistake when, in 1959, he published his Mémoires d'une bergère (Memoirs of a Shepherdess), in which a Louis XV armchair happily traversed the eras and shared his thoughts by the fireside in the winter of his life. The furniture speaks, then, and attunes to each other through a will of its own. Have you ever noticed that a pedestal table won't accept the presence of a lamp? That suddenly a seemingly eclectic ensemble can turn out to be full of meaning? For its new collection, The Socialite Family is also making the furniture talk and even smile. And indulges in a merry game of fools akin to Mozart's drama giocoso – playful drama – Cosi fan tutte.

From this tragicomic work, reminiscent of Italian farce and vaudeville, we retain the light-hearted tunes, bouncing from note to tempo. In the opening, the first eight bars are slow but strong and theatrical, like the strokes of a baton announcing the start of a play. The stage is set, followed by the theme of Cosi fan tutte, andante. The sequel plays out presto, responding to the emotional whirlwind that sets the opera's characters abuzz. The contrast is permanent between strong, piano, subito nuances: the music leaps with lightness and contrast.
