On the Outskirts of Paris, a Flint-built House With Immaculate Interior Decoration Stands, Caressed By the Sun

Such dwellings are home to small pleasures as well as great joys. They see families grow up and children leave when they reach the age of independence. Our parental homes are the starting point for our family odysseys. Landmarks that evolve along with us, and to which the pieces in The Socialite Family collection contribute in their own way. Timeless creations with “retro accents” that attracted the attention of content designer Carole Goupil and her husband, Laurent. In their immaculately designed flint-built house on the outskirts of Paris, parents and children are enjoying their final few years of living together before Emma and Tom take off for pastures new. Their mother designed all their living spaces with white as a chromatic reference point. From the floor to the ceiling, and not forgetting the furniture, she carefully chose the finest materials, “zellige, wood and marble”. So it is not surprising to find our Carlotta coffee table in travertine and our Gioia lacquer table lamp among her favourite antique and contemporary items. Two signature models that fit perfectly into this sunny interior where “well-being” and “good humour” are the order of the day. And so they could enjoy even more time with friends and family – and to open up the ground floor of the house – the couple opted for a kitchen area that opens onto the living room. A no-brainer for this stylish pair, with their taste for entertaining. A natural inclination towards hospitality – especially for this lover of simplicity – who grew up in a “very comforting and warm atmosphere” where “we often had parties at weekends”. And she shares her experiences on Instagram, kindly and amusing insights into her life, whether she is alone or with friends and family. Let’s take a tour.

Carole, can you introduce yourself, please?

Carole

My husband Laurent and I have two children, Emma and Tom. I was born and brought up in the suburbs of Paris, surrounded by a happy and loving family. So I grew up in a very warm and comfortable atmosphere. And the way our home was decorated was really important to us. It was of paramount importance to my parents that it should feel good and that they were able to welcome family and friends throughout the year. We often had parties at home at weekends.

Tell us about your background.

Carole

I’ve been free for a few months now to devote myself to my work as a content creator. Nowadays, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends every day, and I’m having a fantastic time thanks to social networks. Instagram is all about interesting encounters, challenges and above all, the opportunity to share my taste for interior design through my photos. I always get inspired by the light. If a ray of light appears, I grab my camera… but ideas also come to me depending on my mood and the brands I’m working with. I’m lucky enough to be followed by kind and respectful people, and I interact a lot with my community answering people’s questions about decorating.

Today, we are in your immaculate home on the outskirts of Paris. Tell us about your generous use of white here. Why did you choose this decorative approach?

Carole

When it comes to decorating, I choose white for its feel-good factor and the calming effect it has on our moods. It’s easy to play with and allows us to compose our own interior design according to our mood. Light is very important to us because it interacts with white, too. Our windows are south-west facing, which means we get lots of sunshine in our living rooms throughout the day, from morning to night.

What was your guiding principle in designing your living spaces?

Carole

I wanted uncluttered spaces combined with high-quality materials. I started off wanting to work with zellige, wood and marble. You’ll find a mixture of antique furniture, second-hand finds and new furniture.

You have chosen to furnish your living room with The Socialite Family creations, from the Carlotta coffee table to the Gioia table lamp. What does our brand mean to you? What do you like about it?

Carole

I love your brand because of the retro feel of your creations; they can be used in any environment. The designs are aesthetically pleasing, with clean lines that can very often be the centrepiece of an interior design.

Have you a favourite room in your home?

Carole

I love our open-plan living space. It brings together our living room, the dining room and the kitchen, which means we can share more family time together. Being able to spend so much time together is an absolute joy, and I’m making the most of it while my children, who are now in their teens, are still in our house.

What does your home say about you?

Carole

I’m often told that my home feels good, that it’s warm, and that our decor is very soft and gentle. So I’ll let my guests answer that question (laughs).

Christmas is coming. What are you doing to prepare for the Christmas and New Year celebrations?

Carole

This time of year has been very important to me ever since I was a child. Today the same is true at home. The children have grown up, yet they still love the fairy-tale atmosphere. They like the decorations to go up very early, and we have a big tree and lots of fairy lights and candles in the house. And all this is complemented by a chocolate tasting for those of us with a sweet tooth in front of a good Christmas film. With a lot of love, of course
