This week, we’re off to Berlin to meet the understated Anna Cor. Anna surprises us with her calmness and quiet strength. As a lawyer and mother of three children, she combines her family life with her passion for interior design. Being an all-rounder, when she’s not taking care of her children, she’s working on the projects that she’s starting to be offered. Her ultimate dream? To be able to devote herself full-time to interior design and make it her career. And it all started in her own home! She was responsible for the entire layout and had the excellent and ingenious idea to design a box within a box. A block placed right in the middle of the living room! A deliberate and delicious choice, this block of veneered pine is something that we dream of reproducing in my place… one day, maybe?

Anna could you present yourself?
Anna
I have two things I do for a living. I am a fully trained lawyer and work in the field of health law but more and more I work as an interior and prop stylist.

What was it that first attracted you to this apartment?
Anna
The location to be honest. We lived one street further in our former little students apartement, that had become way too small. This flat wasn’t my dream apartement but it was light, had a huge open kitchen and living area and offered enough space. And I knew the rest could be done!

Where do you spend your time in the house?
Anna
With the whole family we definately spent most of the time in the kitchen and living room area. When I am alone I mostly sit on my work desk. I love to have a cup of coffee on our little balcony.

Did you do the decorating?
Anna
Yes I did – and still do. Two years ago we extended the flat and merged it with the flat next door. Therefor we rebuilt the apartement from scratch and there is still a lot to do…

Where did you get your inspiration?
Anna
I don’t really know – I always start with the colors – the rest is a merge of all the influences and impressions I get everyday.
TSF
Did your husband join in and give his opinions?
Anna
Actually: No! He doesn’t have any interests in decoration and rebuilding but he enjoys to live in a nice aparment as well!
TSF
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Anna
Organized – interested – family person.

How do you reconcile family life with attractive interior design?
Anna
My interiors are always made to live in. There’s plenty of furniture that look appealing and are cosy and family friendly as well. natural materials age beautifully and get a wonderful patina when being used – perfect for families! I also think it’s important to have lots of space for family living, but also for individual interests.

What would you regard as the worst kind of bad taste to be avoided?
Anna
I don’t particularly like huge wall units. And I do not really like interiors that are all white and overfilled with design furniture – i call these flats design-hells. But I guess as long as I don´t have to live in there it´s all fine for me…

2-3 restaurants to recommend us in Berlin?
Anna
The Ora in Berlin Kreuzberg is a wonderful coffee place where you can eat little bits and pieces. It’s a former pharmacy and the interior is special and adorable. Wonderful italian food is served at Bosco and I also stop regularly at the House of Small Wonder which is also still one of my favourite.

The best holidays with your family?
Anna
In nature – no matter where. We always need to escape the city once in a while.
